The perfect location, the perfect weather and the perfect celebrity.

After traveling from my home in Yorkshire I arrived at the house of Michael Owen (England International Football Player), after a short discussion about the shoot we got straight down to work capturing images which showed Michael playing on his own synthetic putting green which had been ingeniously designed and installed to blend into it’s natural surroundings.

After many years of experience in front of the camera Michael was a seasoned professional at having his photograph taken which made it easy to capture all the images required to show the putting green in use.

Michael was very friendly and helpful and is a great ambassador for football and sport

For more information on synthetic all year round custom fitted putting greens please see more information at www.europeangolf.co.uk

The Hull Tidal Surge Barrier is the second biggest flood barrier in the country after the Thames barrier.

Built in 1980 at the confluence of the River Hull and the Humber Estuary, the 212 tonne, 30 metre-wide gate is supported between two towers that house the operating machinery and with much of Kingston-upon-Hull susceptible to flooding at times of tidal surges, protects nearly 17,000 homes and businesses from inundation from tidal flooding. The barrier is closed about 12 times a year and has protected the city from the effects of more than 30 high tidal surges since it opened in April 1980 including a record high surge in November 2011.

The Environment Agency contracted SEH Commercial’s sister company, Jackson Civils to refurbish the structure. Andrew Newton, Projects Team Manager at the Environment Agency saw the benefits of the partnership during the tender process: “In our business we don’t have a great deal of involvement with windows so for Jacksons to be able to offer their relationship with a venerable window firm like SEH Commercial as part of the Group structure to be involved in the project, was certainly a valuable asset when we were looking at the bids for the contract.”

An iconic structure in the area, the two towers are set either side of the waterway and house the barrier motors in the top of them; the towers are connected by a 25 metre high enclosed walkway which, as part of the refurbishment now has a synchronisation shaft running through it to improve the efficiency of the barrier. The whole structure is regularly pounded by the elements and the saline coastal environment had taken its toll. As part of the Environment Agency’s £10 million refurbishment project, the specification called for the 2 metre long mullions, which hold the barrier’s 550 glazing panels in place, to be replaced to maintain health and safety levels and maintain weather-proofing. SEH Commercial extracted the panels, replaced 10 with new glazing panes and replaced the originals once the mullions were in place.

Working at height and on such a structure required specialist skills, skills which SEH Commercial’s specialist fenestration teams have along with CHAS, Safe Contractor, Constructionline and other accreditations. The project ran from early September until November having been disrupted at numerous times by adverse weather conditions but on completion, Andrew Newton was delighted with the result. “Certainly we are delighted with the work undertaken by SEH Commercial and would consider using the Company on future projects.”

Paul Hickin, site manager for Jackson Civils: “SEH Commercial did what we expected of them and were very accommodating, especially due to the constraints put on the project by the weather. We are now planning further additional works on the barrier with SEH.”

In 2011 SEH Commercial satisfied another Environment Agency project alongside Jackson Civils by upgrading windows and frames at the Welches Dam water pumping station in the Cambridgeshire fens.

Today I’m traveling from my home in Yorkshire in the UK to the Beautiful north coast of Ireland and the home of professional golfer Darren Clark OBE.

This was actually the second time I have met Darren as I photographed him in 2007 at Loch Lomond Golf Club during the Scottish Open, he’s a great guy and was very friendly and helpful, a great ambassador for golf and sport.

As with all these types of photo shoot there was very little time to actually do the shoot itself however after many years of experience Darren is a consummate and seasoned professional at poising in front of a camera to have his photograph taken.

The images are for product endorsement and commercial product placement, the shoot went very smoothly, easily capturing all of the images required by the client.

As Darren’s new home was under construction the greens had to be placed on the Tarmac area to the front of his home, a number of the images will be cut out from there background and retouched before use as the greens are designed to be inset into a garden setting surrounded by grass.

The trip involved a one night stay in Belfast and growing hungry we looked for somewhere to eat, luckily we came across a bar/restaurant called The Cloth Ear which is part of the Beautiful Merchant Hotel in Belfast, we had a lovely meal and was entertained throughout by a local singer called Eilis phillips who was truly spectacular, she did some interesting cover versions including a Lady Gaga number.

For more information on Darren Clarke OBE signature putting greens please see more information at www.europeangolf.co.uk

Background

One of the world’s most well known golfers, Darren Clarke has won many fans with his passionate play and dedicated approach to the game. A stalwart of The European Tour since 1991, the Ulsterman is no stranger to firsts.

In the 1999 Smurfit European Open he became the first player on The European Tour to shoot 60 for a second time, having achieved it first in the 1992 European Monte Carlo Open. In 2002 he became the first player to win the English Open three times and in 2003 became the first player outside Tiger Woods to capture more than one World Golf Championship title. Three weeks after the untimely death of wife Heather, who finally lost her brave battle against cancer in August 2006, Darren was picked as one of the wild cards for The Ryder Cup at K Club and in an emotionally charged week produced one of his most memorable performances, winning all three of his matches.

A dedicated worker for charity, he set up his own Darren Clarke Foundation, which not only helps further the development of junior golf in Ireland, but also now raises money for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Darren has assured his place in history by earning a place in the renowned ‘Who’s Who’ guide for 2008, and in 2005 he even appeared on an Irish postage stamp. A difficult 2007, where Darren juggled looking after his two sons with his golf regime, saw him slip down the rankings, but he began to find his form again in South Africa before the winter break.

2008 was a great year for Darren with wins in the BMW Asian Open in China and the KLM Open in The Netherlands where his sons Tyrone and Conor were there to witness Dad’s victory.

In 2010 he beat a world class field in the JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am at Adare Manor in Ireland where he had a one shot victory over Luke Donald. He secured his spot in the 139th Open Championship at St Andrews by finishing 2nd in the Barclays Scottish Open. Darren finished 30th in the European Tour Race To Dubai assuring his place in the field for the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St Georges. He rounded off 2010 in great style with the announcement of his engagement to Alison Campbell.

2011 began well for Darren with a victory in the Iberdrola Open in Mallorca but he enjoyed his finest hour in July when he claimed his maiden major championship. Darren won the 140th Open Championship at Royal St George’s in Kent by three shots from Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson.

Byland Abbey

A romantic setting tucked away in a quiet valley; quite simply, the ruins of Byland Abbey and its surrounding landscape are truly breathtaking.

Once one of England’s greatest monasteries, Byland Abbey inspired the design of church buildings throughout the north, including York Minster. Built in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, hospitality has always been a huge part of the site’s history. Now that hospitality continues as this magnificent Gothic edifice is available as a reception venue for your big day.

Whether you arrive in a horse drawn coach, a Morris Minor or a red double Decker bus, the setting of Byland Abbey lends itself to any style of wedding reception. Picture yourself entering the romantic ruins, to be greeted with ice cold bubbly and mouth-watering canapés, then on to exploring the spectacular setting. Frame some of your photos with the entrance to the nave, topped with its spectacular Rose Window. Every corner offers beautiful settings to help make your wedding album special.

There are two two marquee sites at Byland, one right in the central cloister area and one by the gate arch; marquees can be extensively tailored to suit your own requirements, catering for between 80 and 300 people.

Alas, civil wedding ceremonies cannot be held at Byland Abbey however the Abbey is available to host wedding receptions.

Byland Abbey Inn

On the edge of the North York Moors, snuggled beside a majestic Abbey is a hidden gem perfect for those looking for a unique place to hold a wedding reception.

Overlooking the majestic Byland Abbey, the Inn is steeped in history, from the medieval hostelry under the building’s foundations, to its beautiful stonework borrowed from the Abbey and the Inn’s final transformation refurbished from the 19th century farmhouse it once was.

The Inn offers a classic romantic setting for your wedding with a choice of informal elegance in the dining rooms or a stunning marquee reception in the grounds – perfect for groups of 20 up to 80 inside, or up to 200 in a marquee in the grounds. Recently licensed to hold civil ceremonies, enjoy your perfect day before settling into one of the lovely rooms for your wedding night.
